Buying a car cheap - couple of toyota camry's. Cheap - 2000-3000 1996-1997 because go to school now.?

I need it to run for 1.5 2 years with some repairs but, hopefully nothing major. What to expect from these cars? What to pay attention to? I might find a mechanic and take him with me.
